A history lesson wrapped in a gripping story, I was quickly hooked to learn how young Joshua, a homophobic christian soldier would evolve into a warrior for Artemis against a christian sect!
The use of time travel drives home the close parallels between modern political/social issues and those of 1115 AUC Ephesus. "History repeats itself", and A Warrior for Artemis demonstrates this very effectively.
After reading this story I was eager to do follow-up research, particularly details about the development of the church, the bible, alternate religions and Julian "the Apostate".
This is a wonderful page turner I definitely recommend this story to any history buff.
A Warrior for Artemis is a wonderful book. It teaches and explains many current issues in a language that most people can easily understand. I read it twice and learned more each time. Thank you Russ Hubbard. You are a national treasure.

A Warrior for Artemis is an entertainig and candid and look at an adolescent boy trying to make sense of the world around him in the areas of home, religion, relationships and the wars which have always plagued us. It is a good story with engaging characters. The author uses the interesting device of time travel, in a dream, back to Ephesus in the year 362 AD. This allows us to see that many of the problems we face today have always been with us, but it also helps us to know that the Bible, not yet written is not an absolute source of information about the Christian faith. The scene in Ephesus was a bit long and the Christian message confusing. I found it a well written and enjoyable read.
